“FLO Friday: Using Alternative Assessments to Balance Technology, Academic Integrity, and Stress Management Goals”

Date: June 17, 2022
Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am
Location: Online Session
Webinars

Free online event as seen on BCcampus website

June 17th, 2022, 11:00-12:00 P.M. PT

with FLO facilitator Elle Ting (she/her), BCcampus Research Fellow and Vancouver Community College (VCC) Research Ethics Board chair and faculty member.

Technology is frequently cited as the direct cause of the increase in academic fraud reported over the past two years of rapid, pandemic-driven adoption of online learning; it’s just as often promised as the only solution to this problem. However, over time, it has become clearer that technology is neither the sole cause of academic misconduct nor a “magic bullet” to protect academic integrity; instead, understanding how design of alternative assessments can reduce learner stress is more helpful in mitigating academic fraud and ensuring technology integration works for learners and educators (and not the other way around!). This FLO Friday workshop will describe the interplay between technology, stress, and academic fraud and help you identify alternative assessments that can minimize student stress, improve student engagement, and protect academic integrity.

The Second Online Integrity Forum

Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am

As seen on http://integrity.nu.edu.kz/en .

Integrity Project hosts the Second Online Integrity Forum on June 1, 2022. We will explore Kazakhstani and international academic integrity experiences at universities, the integrity challenges we face on a daily basis, best practices for turning challenges into opportunities, and new approaches to student leadership in this context. A feature of the Forum and Integrity Project is the primary role of student voices.

The Forum’s Program will also emphasise the role of integrity beyond graduation for successful and fulfilled careers. We will do it through workshops and information sessions to develop integrity awareness, critical thinking and public speaking skills.

The Forum continues a series of Integrity Project’s regular events and activities and will be essential for students and professionals who aim to develop a network of scholars-professionals-university and high school students with a common interest in academic and professional integrity and leading change.

ICAI FREE Webinar: The Changing Nature of Group Collaboration in the Online Environment

Date: May 27, 2022
Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Webinars

FREE Webinar on Friday, May 27th 2022 from 12 – 1 pm EST with Sarah Elaine Eaton PhD. As seen on ICAI website:

This webinar will present a lively discussion about the nature of group work in an online environment. We will discuss how and why to establish clear expectations for group work and how to manage expectations throughout the learning process: before the project begins, during the project, and during the summative assessment phases of the work. We will explore the benefits and challenges of having a “team charter” (also known as a “group work plan”) and we’ll talk about the complexities of team members working across time zones that make meeting in real time inconvenient. Finally, we’ll talk about different approaches to team work including the “divide and conquer” versus a “collective responsibility” approach and also, we’ll talk about the complexities of evaluating online group work ethically (spoiler alert: there is no magic solution). There will be time for questions and conversation. Everyone is welcome!

Please join this webinar, with:

Sarah Elaine Eaton, PhD. She is an associate professor at Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary (Canada). She taught her first online class in 2005 and has since taught more than 100 courses online, including credit and non-credit (continuing education) courses. Her graduate supervision includes 12 present and graduated doctoral students, all of whom have taken at least some of their courses online.
