Using case studies, we will explore types of plagiarism, degrees of severity, how to manage meetings with students, and how to determine consequences.

with FLO facilitator Elle Ting (she/her), BCcampus Research Fellow and Vancouver Community College (VCC) Research Ethics Board chair and faculty member.
Technology is frequently cited as the direct cause of the increase in academic fraud reported over the past two years of rapid, pandemic-driven adoption of online learning; it’s just as often promised as the only solution to this problem. However, over time, it has become clearer that technology is neither the sole cause of academic misconduct nor a “magic bullet” to protect academic integrity; instead, understanding how design of alternative assessments can reduce learner stress is more helpful in mitigating academic fraud and ensuring technology integration works for learners and educators (and not the other way around!). This FLO Friday workshop will describe the interplay between technology, stress, and academic fraud and help you identify alternative assessments that can minimize student stress, improve student engagement, and protect academic integrity.

Integrity Project hosts the Second Online Integrity Forum on June 1, 2022. We will explore Kazakhstani and international academic integrity experiences at universities, the integrity challenges we face on a daily basis, best practices for turning challenges into opportunities, and new approaches to student leadership in this context. A feature of the Forum and Integrity Project is the primary role of student voices.
The Forum’s Program will also emphasise the role of integrity beyond graduation for successful and fulfilled careers. We will do it through workshops and information sessions to develop integrity awareness, critical thinking and public speaking skills.
The Forum continues a series of Integrity Project’s regular events and activities and will be essential for students and professionals who aim to develop a network of scholars-professionals-university and high school students with a common interest in academic and professional integrity and leading change.
